France’s inflation falls to 1.2 pct in September: INSEE

PARIS, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) — France’s consumer price index (CPI) is projected to rise by just 1.2 percent year-on-year in September, according to a preliminary report released by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) on Friday.
For the second consecutive month, France’s CPI is expected to remain below the 2-percent benchmark, marking the lowest level since August 2021, following a revised 1.8-percent increase in August 2024.
According to INSEE, the decline in inflation is primarily attributed to a drop in energy prices, particularly for petroleum products.
It noted that service prices are expected to rise more slowly year-on-year, while prices for manufactured goods are likely to decline at a slightly faster rate compared to the previous month.
After the Olympic and Paralympic Games, service prices in France are expected to rise by only 2.5 percent year-on-year, down from a 3-percent increase in August.
Energy prices are projected to decline by 3.3 percent year-on-year in September, according to INSEE, reflecting the decrease in fuel prices across France. ■
